My designs are based on the premise of BIG ON PLAY and LITTLE ON SPACE and are meant to INSPIRE IMAGINARY PLAY

The castles are constructed from 25MM thick planed unfinished pine, and are assembled without the use of nails. Instead, the castles are glued or dowelled together based on the requirements of each design. Some small screws may be used for certain hinges and mechanisms, including doors, drawbridges and portcullises. The castles are robust and are built to be played with.

I design each of these castles for children ages 3 and up.

Castle in a Box

This is a modular castle made up of around 25 pieces which all fit nicely into a box for safe keeping. The pieces are designed to stand alone freely, and when put together with the other pieces create a motte-and-baily castle with two working portcullises. A child could create a diorama by gluing the castle pieces together, painting them, and then setting them on a board. This castle measures roughly 56cm by 28cm.

Low Profile Castles

This design of castle can be hung on a wall, placed on a bookshelf, or stored against a wall. They are around 60cm tall, 30cm wide, and 12cm deep, so they have a slim profile and take up very little space. They are open at the back for easy access, and have a number of different levels to inspire imaginary play. They come in two main designs, with either a drawbridge, or a portcullis and sliding door as the main entrance. They include a dungeon, store room, working doors, battlements, arrow slits, a fireplace, and treasure chests.

Box Design

These castles are box-shaped and have three floors and battlements. They have either a working portcullis, or drawbridge. Access to the inside of the castle is via a removeable side wall. When closed, the box can be used to store your figures and set up like a night light on a bedside table.

Fixed Castles

These are a more traditional style of castle with individual buildings and battlements fixed together on a solid plywood baseboard. They can be custom build to order, with unique design elements tailored to your requirements.
